Organ Donation Awareness Programme

The Red Cross Unit of the College has conducted a programme on “Organ Donation Awareness Programme” in association with K.H. Patil, Kidney Care and Sankalpa, Superspeciality & Maternity Hospital (A unit of Gadag Health Care), Gadag on 19th December, 2024 in the college.

Dr. Avinash R. Odugoudar, Consultant Uroncologist & Transplant Surgeon, Gadag was the resource person. He highlighted on organ donation is a noble act of transplanting healthy organs from a donor to a patient receiver. Further, he emphasized that, human body organs and tissues that function properly are collected and transplanted into patients’ bodies to save their lives. In most cases, organ donations are performed after the donor’s death. But some organs can be donated even when the donors are alive.

Dr. Noorani Pyarali, Liasion Physician was the guest and spoke about saving the lives of many members, as one cadaver donation can provide life support to 8 members suffering from end-stage organ damage. Improving the patient’s and their family’s quality of life. Reducing the overall healthcare cost compared to long-term medical treatments for organ failure.

Shri Jaihanuman H.K. principal and president of the programme spoke in his presidential address that, the importance of donating the organs to the needy of the society. Further he emphasized about the act i.e. legislation called the Transplantation of Human Organ Act (THO) was passed in India in 1994 to streamline organ donation and transplantation activities. Broadly, the act accepted brain death as a form of death and made the sale of organs a punishable offence.

In this programme Shri S. A. Manvi, Chairman, Local Governing Body and Prof. P. G.Patil, Principal of KLE’s J.T. College, Gadag were present.

Dr. C. B. Ranagattimath, Programme officer of Youth Red Cross Unit introduced the guests and welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vijay V. Muradande, IQAC Coordinator proposed the vote of thanks. Miss Chaitra Goudar, 2nd year LL.B student was the master of ceremony.
